Ichiya Kuroda

Journey

Ichiya was born Faustmarch Etoinoix in Ishgard to parents who were deemed and executed as heretics. This leads his older sister to leave Ishgard to pursue the truth, while Ichiya exiles himself to Mor Dhona, hoping to be attacked by monsters lurking in the area. He instead is saved by a wandering Doman, who eventually gives him the name "Ichiya Kuroda" so that he may move on from his life before exile and become an adventurer without guilt.En route to Limsa Lominsa, Ichiya, unable to heal his mentor enough, loses the Doman to a sudden attack from the pirates. He awakens to the Echo then, and pursues Arcanism as he goes on his adventure– alone, initially, but unable to let a Warrior Miqo'te, Y'uemi Khahwa, go by herself due to her recklessness.

Ishgard, his home, and his family

Ichiya treasures his family, but has conflicting feelings about Ishgard. He had left home back when everything was lush and green, and was doubly upset upon coming home to a gloomy city of frost and ice. He harbors a deep hatred for the Archbishop and his followers, and struggles to forgive any devotee he sees.Despite everything, Ichiya holds immense concern for Ishgard. His sister, Columbine, who was a follower of Ysayle and is now a fellow ambassador, assists Aymeric and Lucia with establishing healthy relations with the dragons. Ichiya keeps regular contact with his sister through Moogle mail.

Doma, adventuring, and his mentor

Ichiya finds a surrogate parent in the Doman named Hiiro who eventually taught him how to fight with knives. Due to Ichiya's chirurgeon mother, he has some knowledge of healing magicks and initially did his best to support Hiiro while also trying to learn how to wield dual knives– something he didn't quite develop an affinity for.With his guiding mentor's death, Ichiya did his best to find any surviving family of his in Doma. However, with Hiiro being the only name to work with, Ichiya was unable to find anything.

Theater, acting, and eventide

Ichiya develops a keen interest in acting after encountering one in Kugane. With Godbert Manderville as benefactor, the Evertide Theater Troupe is formed in Eorzea, and Ichiya secretly joins under the guise of a male Viera– an identity none but Y'uemi knows about.With a face and name different from his usual, Ichiya finds comfort, relief, and solace from the demands of a life overturned, and a glimpse at a life that could've been. During the day, he is Ichiya Kuroda; and behind the curtains of eventide, he is just an actor living stories beyond his life.

Loss, healing, and love

While initially having a one-sided competition with her, Ichiya eventually sticks to Y'uemi Khahwa– a reckless Miqo'te warrior that almost dies during a bad run in the deeper levels of Sastasha. After having lost his parents and mentor, Ichiya wouldn't be able to live with himself if he lost someone due to his incapability again.Healing has become an uncomfortable affair for him, however, due to not being able to save his mentor. Ichiya has since focused on being relentless with his attacks instead, trying to avoid the worst, but persistent and continued loss brings him to Fray.Initially, Ichiya becomes a Dark Knight out of guilt and to take accountability for his mistakes. With Y'uemi's support and the immense love he carries for those he holds dear, lost and the living, Ichiya has since improved on his work, eventually learning to love not only his people but also accepting himself for his flaws.
